Berufsbildungszentren BBZW+G, Sursee

Based on a careful analysis of the site, the design develops a vision for the BBZW+G that builds upon the genius loci and optimally fulfills operational goals. A seven-storey wooden building along the railroad line enables resource-efficient densification. The main entrances are reoriented toward the train station—students can reach their learning environment directly, traffic in the neighbourhood is reduced, and the site becomes clearly legible. At the centre is a learning landscape that fosters collaboration. Flexible classrooms, bright interior spaces, and generous communal areas create room for exchange, curiosity, and personal growth. The existing Wing B is transformed: carefully stripped back and expanded using timber construction—with targeted reuse of building components. The clear phasing of the project allows construction to proceed while operations continue, saving time and costs.

The design of the open spaces responds to climate change: shading, nature-oriented recreational areas, and a green roof landscape strengthen the campus's identity and microclimate. Complemented by the newly designed staircase, a diverse landscape of open spaces emerges, directly connecting to the train station and the forest. With Minergie-P and SNBS certifications, "Insieme" sets high standards in resource-efficient construction—and combines sustainability, functionality, and architectural quality into an educational environment that puts people at the centre.
