Start of KZN construction and the grammar of plans

Construction work has begun on the Zurich North Cantonal School. In the current issue of the school magazine “Nordpool”, project manager Regula Wüst and Binta Anderegg provide insights into the planning process. In particular, they explain how the conversion plans are being developed to ensure that the canton's largest cantonal school retains its character while at the same time becoming fit for the future.

The buildings, which were built in 1975 and have been partially renovated several times, are now being completely overhauled and renovated in terms of energy efficiency so that the future energy requirement will only be 20% of what it is today. The rigid spatial structure is giving way to flexible solutions that create adaptable classrooms and workspaces. The 2200 students will continue to study at the Irchel campus of the University of Zurich during the construction period until 2027.
