Voters in Schlieren have approved a credit of CHF 16.9 million for the new Zelgli school building, with 74.09 per cent voting in favour. The project can now move ahead and will provide urgently needed classroom space for the growing number of pupils.
The new building is a compact volume on a square floor plan. Its small footprint preserves the existing outdoor areas and allows it to blend naturally into the school campus. A visible timber structure defines the building inside and out: on the façade, slender horizontal and vertical fins create a fine relief with a constantly changing play of light and shadow, while inside, an open and flexible spatial landscape extends across all floors.
The classrooms are grouped in clusters of four. They can be used individually or combined, accommodating a variety of teaching formats. Generous common areas and a central staircase connect the floors, creating a lively place for learning and encounter.
We are delighted with the clear result and look forward to realising the project together with the City of Schlieren and our planning partners.
