The digital model doesn't end at the desk – in Wankdorfcity3, the contractor team works with it directly on the construction site. As architects, it was impressive for us to see what the site teams get out of a cleanly structured, georeferenced model: where individual reference points used to serve as orientation, the foreman today selects any point with a tap in the model – the electronic total station transfers it to the site with millimetre precision – saving rework, time, and costs.
Reinforcement and formwork are also planned digitally: phases and cycles defined directly in the model, materials ordered as needed. Location-tagged photos, digital checklists, and automatic drawing version control replace traditional paper plan management.
The construction site here is more paperless than many an office – ours included, if we're honest.
