2nd Place | Burgerau School Complex, Rapperswil

We are pleased to announce our 2nd place in the project competition "Burgerau School Complex" in Rapperswil

Our "Space Folder" is characterized by a compact volume that enables economical use of the available land and integrates harmoniously into the existing environment.  The urban planning placement creates an attractive recreational area between the old building and the new construction, which becomes a common address, meeting point, and place to spend time. The well-thought-out exterior design creates an attractive address, optimally connects the school grounds with the surrounding neighbourhood, and offers diverse near-natural places to gather.

A key focus of the concept lies in the cluster organization of the classrooms, with each cluster having its own individual multifunctional meeting zone. The flexible spatial structure is made possible by innovative structural, building services, and fire protection concepts that meet current requirements while ensuring long-term adaptability. The existing building maintains its external appearance, while minimal interventions are made to the interior without affecting the primary structure.

Following the principle "The human being is at the centre of the design," our project creates an identity-forming spatial landscape that offers both expansiveness and generosity as well as intimacy and retreat possibilities – entirely in line with a forward-looking learning environment for all users.
