Elbarkaden_Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis.jpg2014 Special Award for Sustainable Building

The German Sustainability Award (DNP) is aimed at promoting social change to greener economics and lifestyles. It is awarded by the DNP foundation and endorsed by the German federal government, trade associations, civic organisations, research institutions and other bodies.
The special award for sustainable building is conferred by the DNP in partnership with the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) for buildings that take account of sustainability criteria in their planning, construction, and operation and which are characterised by innovative solutions as well as an outstanding quality of design.
The Elbarkaden (Elbe Arcades) have been short-listed for the Top 3, in particular owing to the "long-term sustainability of this large structure with regard to its flexibility in planning, use and possible conversion, as well as its interaction with public space. Its massing and the lasting quality of its exterior material allow it to fit successfully into the harbour context, while its urban loggias and public passages contribute value to the surrounding townscape."
The award ceremony was held in Düsseldorf on 28th November 2014, as part of the events to mark German Sustainability Day.
