In the redevelopment of the site on Freiestrasse, the new building has been inserted into the urban fabric with particular attention to the context. 'Densification' and 'interweaving' were the principles followed in providing the required floor area on this plot in a way compatible with the neighbourhood, while establishing a meaningful dialogue with the existing buildings. In addition to the advantages of its urban location, the new building offers unexpectedly intimate spaces and a number of ways of achieving privacy. The refined floor layout creates cosy interiors with a feeling of spaciousness in a small floor area.
This monograph presents the replacement building in Freiestrasse in Zurich. An introductory text by the architects is accompanied by numerous colour photographs and plans documenting the building, which was erected between 2009 and 2012.
