Temperatures are rising, glaciers are on the retreat, the polar ice cap is melting and stocks of raw materials are depleted: planet earth and the environment are changing and at an ever-increasing rate, or so it seems. Is time really running out, as reports, films and debates say? Or are fears being whipped up without reason and headlines conjured on the cheap? What is science's stance on this? What do the experts say? And what can society do?
To mark the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE), the Science et Cité foundation and the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences (SCNAT) chose planet earth and its transformation as the theme of the 3rd Science et Cité festival, basecamp09.
At the event 'Living in Zurich in the Year 2050', Marco Giuliani of BGP took part in a panel discussion about Zurich's future lifestyles and architecture, chaired by Martin Läubli (Tagesanzeiger), in the company of Prof. Dr. Lino Guzzella (ETH, Zurich), Bruno Bébié, City of Zurich) and Prof. Dr. Heinz Gutscher (UZH).
