Care and Home against an Alpine Backdrop

Informed by an analysis of the location and the ope- rational requirements, the existing buildings and the new building have been interlinked to form a symbiotic en- semble that generates synergies. The public functions are accommodated in a base building that connects with the existing substance and creates a new entrance situation. The nursing care facilities are arranged on se- parate floors to form a relatively compact body that is oriented towards the landscape.

The circulation system forms the communicative and functional backbone of the complex as a whole. The corridors are not just access routes; they also offer seating areas and outdoor views so as to create an atmosphere that is inviting and facilitates social contact. The nursing care floors are characterised by comfortable intimacy enhanced with a variety of views and orientation points – both outdoor and indoor – and plenty of natural light. Circulation loops with alcove seating encourage the residents to spend time outside their rooms and socialise, generally helping to foster independence in the way that they live everyday life. The rooms all face out onto the garden and enjoy breathtaking views of the Fronalp.
